  • Abstract In the gravity anomaly map of Taiwan, the trends are generally in consonance with the structural trends. The gravity lows are usually found in sedimentary basin, such as Taichung basin and Pingtung area. In the vicinity of Puli basin around Eocene and Oligocene (high-density)
    tectonic framework, instead there show the minimum value of the Bouguer gravity in this area.
      In order to understand the cause, we use the gravity anomaly values to get the reliable subsurface density structure. The steps will not stop till the value of calculated gravity anomaly fits the value of observed gravity anomaly data. About the assumption of the initial density model, we use the converted formula (Barton, 1986) to convert the tomography model in center Taiwan by Kim et al. (2005).
      The result shows Pliocene sediments existing beneath the surface geology replaced Oligocene on the surface. It is the cause of the lowest gravity anomalies in Taiwan.
