  • Abstract   The goals of this research are to explore what the dominant design of business model is, how the dominant design of business model derives, how the evolution of business model in the foundry business is, and what similarities and dissimilarities between dominant design of business model and dominant design of technology are.
      Grounded theory qualitative research method was imported to analyze typical cases of TSMC’s and UMC’s business model innovations. This study found that (1) dominant design of business model derives from the continually imitating, learning, or following processes of competitive firms (2) There are three phases for the evolutionary dominant design of business model innovation (3) Points of difference determinate the final winner in the processes of forming dominant design of business model (4) Dominant design of technology is a static equilibrium while the one of business model is a dynamic equilibrium.
