  • Abstract The goal of this study is to use NOAA AMSU data to retrieve the atmospheric temperture/moisture profiles, and use the result for typhoon monitoring. AMSU can provide a better much spatial resolution in 48 km than its firstrunner, MSU. Hence, it provides a more powerful capacity in typhoon monitoring. In retrievals, this study used IAPP package to obtain the atmospheric profiles, and got a accuracy at 2.5 K or so. Meanwhile, this study used the retrieved temperature field to derive the typhoon maximum wind speed. Again, this study used the derived the parameters to construct the typhoon prediction model in predict the typhoon track/intensity variations.
