Title Vibrational Excitation in Ion Molecule Collision:H+,H2+,H3+,He+, and Ne+ on N2

  • Abstract A study has been made of the relative band intensities and
    emissioncross section of the N2+ first negative system excited
    by H+,H2+,H3+,He+,andNe+. Projectile ion energies from 2 to 10
    keV were used. At ion velocity below than 1.0E+8 cm/sec,the
    relative population of higher(V'>0) vibrational statesincreased
    monotonically with decreasing projectile velocity. Especially,
    the vibrational excitation was found to be solely dependent on
    the projectile ion'slaboratory velocity for H+,H2+,and H3+. But
    at the same ion velocity range;thesame band intensities which
    were produced by He ion were higher or lower than the results
    produced by hydrogen ions. It indicated that there are some
    degree dependent of ion natures. As for the light emission cross
    section of 391.4 nm and 427.8 nm were shown to be increased with
    projectile ion velocities.
