  • Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the radial flow rapid
    pressure swing adsorption (RFRPSA) by simply changing the
    geometry of adsorption column into a radial flow configu-
    ration where 5A molecular sieve was served as adsorbent. Three
    types of particle sizes and two different feed directions were
    studied. The result showed product oxygen purity can be
    enhanced to more than 70% under the conditions of 600 gram 3gm
    5A molecular sieve powder packed, 9 centimeter adsober length,
    20 psig feed pressure and inward feed direction. The oxygen
    purity of product increased with decreasing the packing
    particle aize. The effects of RFRPSA process with outward feed
    direction were not so good as which with inward feed direction.
    They only produced the product which oxygen purity just little
    higher than atmosphere air. The different results between
    inward and outward RFRPSA processes can be attributed to the
    various pressure profile distribution in adsorber. The larger
    packing particle sizes will result in the more similar pressure
    profile and oxygen concen- tration in both processes.
