  • Abstract This study includes two parts . In the first part, we try to
    improve the sythesis procedure of AlPO-11 and SAPO-11 in order
    to obtain larger crystal and develop a process suitable for
    large scale sythesis. In the second part , the reaction of
    phenol meth- ylation was studied over AlPO-11 and SAPO-11 . The
    results reveal that for the synthesis under static con- dition
    aluminum source obtained from hydroysis of aluminumtriiso-
    propylate is better than pseudoboehmite. 90J pretreatment
    can avoid dense-phase . For the synthesis under stirring
    condition , SAPO-11 of high purity can be obtained from heating
    a reaction mixture with 3∼10 wt% seeding crystals added at
    150J for 19 ho- urs or a reaction mixture without seeding
    crystals at 90J for 19J for 19 hours then at 180J for 19
    hours. In the vapor - phase alkylation of phenol with methanol
    over SAPO-11 at 400J , WHSV = 2.62 1/hr the mainproducts are
    cresols , anisole , and a small amount of xylenols and
    methylanisoles . Among cresol isomers , the selectivity of o-
    cresol are around 80 mole% . Some of the o-cresol may result
    from anisole the rearr- angement of anisole. Comparing to the
    results over SAPO-5 , low selectivities of xylenol and
    methylanisole and slow decay rate over SAPO-11 reveal the
    better shape-selectivity and coke resis- tance of SAPO-11.
